What Happens To A Parched Soul?

Hungry - Day 19

"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When may I come and appear in God's presence?" Psalm 42:2 IST

Have you ever gone without water for too long? Dehydration is a very real and serious condition that can result in death. Our bodies are mostly water so when we don't get enough we literally wilt like a tulip in an empty vase.

Our soul reacts the same way when we go without the Word of God and we are out of fellowship with the Father. It is shockingly fast how quick our spirit wilts and grows parched.

Some of the signs of a parched soul are when we no longer want to read the Bible. We feel disconnected from the body of Christ. Before we know it we feel empty and apathetic toward the things of God.

The way to revitalize our spirit is to drink in the Word of God.

Jesus is the word that become flesh. He told his disciples "I am the bread of life...Those who come to me will never be hungry; those who believe in me will never be thisty." John 6:35. We were created to be one with the Father, just as Jesus was one with him (John 17). He said that he is the vine and we are the branches (John 15).

We cannot spiritually exist apart from God.

When we read the Word, it fills us with Jesus. When we are filled with Jesus the Kingdom invades us and transcends us into the unity of the Father and Son through the Holy Spirit. Our spirit thirsts for that union. That's why nothing else can fully satisfy us apart from Christ and why we so quickly grow empty when we are estranged from him.

Challenge: Set time aside every day to read The Word.
